The first redesigned large numerals feature a 3 with a very fine loop separation. The 2 has a longer head than the normal 2.

The second were easily distinguished by the 1, which has a very closed head, and by the flat base of the digits. The numerals are thicker, an aspect that was reinforced in 1872 by the use of oilier ink.
